Lately I’ve been struggling with the notion that I’ve lost my ability to dream when I’m sleeping. Or lost my ability to REMEMBER my dreams at least. One or the other. Somewhere along the way the wiring in my brain that controls dreaming short circuited or something.

But last night, I had a minor breakthrough.

LATE RIDE
I think I’ve done the L.A.T.E. Ride six times now. The first three were pretty fun, and the last three I’ve done just because I didn’t have anything better to do at the time.

So while I was out getting the oil changed in my car, I went (REALLY OUT OF MY WAY) to visit a 7-Eleven disguised as a Kwik-E-Mart in honor of the release of the new Simpsons theatrical release. Admittedly, I haven’t watched the Simpsons in years, but for a good stretch in the 90′s it was my favorite sit-com on TV (aside from Seinfeld of course).

What do I have to do to get a good taco place downtown for lunch? Those who know me know about my aversion to fast food tacos, particularly Taco Bell (I’ll tell you when you’re older). I used to go to Baja Fresh. It wasn’t great, but I could take it now and then. Burrito Beach doesn’t nothing for me. And Chipotle, well, there’s just no love in Chipotle tacos.

July 12, 1979. I was only five years old at the time and really have little to no recollection of the event, but over the last 28 years as a White Sox fan, a Steve Dahl fan, and a Rock and Roll fan, I’ve grown to appreciate it even more as one of those moments in time that is unlike any other.

and no, irony is not lost on me.

one warm day about three and a half weeks ago, i came home from getting a haircut to a really hot apartment. this is not the kind of temperature reception when you come home to an air conditioned (or so i thought) condo. i looked at the thermostat and the air conditioner (from here on out to be referred to as the A/C) was on and set to a comfortable 76 degrees. unfortunately, the actual temperature in the condo was 84. i put my had under a vent and felt lukewarm air. not good. not good at all.

fast forward to the present (remember, three and a half weeks), and still no A/C to speak of to keep the place cool.

i’ve gone through four Macs in 12 years. a week ago today, with some beeping, clicking, and popping, Mac #4 spit out its last breath with a whimper.

and for the first time ever, Mac #5 is a laptop. A shiny new MacBook Pro. So now, instead of being confined to the cave that is my home office space, i can pick up and go. diggin’ it!

if i was keeping track of how many different versions of parshall.net there’s been over the years i’d probably be somewhere in the teens by now. i don’t know, sometimes i just get bored. sometimes i try something new. sometimes i try stuff i wouldn’t ever get away with at the day job.

so here we go again with yet another rearranging of the furniture. not sure why… i just felt like it. even geeked out and plugged in a real blog tool onto the site again. not sure why i did that either. had a pseudo-blog in the last iteration of parshall.net and i think i added one, maybe two entries every month. it’s not like i have a lot to say. i’m sure the archive will be sparse.

or maybe i’ll suprise myself and actually try and do more writing. i used to write a lot. sure, that was back in college when, being an english major, you pretty much HAD to write. lately i’ve missed it, so maybe this will help get back in the saddle again.

stay tuned. there may be more here. eventually.
