July 2007 Archives

So this weekend while I ventured out to the far west suburbs for a party at a farm in Yorkville, I took a detour to DeKalb so I could see what happens to be my Funniest Charitable Donation EVER. Took me a while to find it, but there it is.

Escape from the city on Saturday to the Moran farm. They know how to throw a good party out there.

iguchi.jpgSo today the White Sox bid farewell to Tadahito Iguchi, and one more member of the 2005 World Series champions is now playing elsewhere (Jermaine Dye next to go?). I was kinda hoping the Gooch would stick around a few more years. The little guy had a sweet swing, nice and easy with surprising power.

I'm also bummed to see Iguchi go because I still needed his autograph on my 2005 World Series baseball.

Lately I've been struggling with the notion that I've lost my ability to dream when I'm sleeping. Or lost my ability to REMEMBER my dreams at least. One or the other. Somewhere along the way the wiring in my brain that controls dreaming short circuited or something.

But last night, I had a minor breakthrough.

L.A.T.E. Ride 2007

LATE RIDE
I think I've done the L.A.T.E. Ride six times now. The first three were pretty fun, and the last three I've done just because I didn't have anything better to do at the time.

So while I was out getting the oil changed in my car, I went (REALLY OUT OF MY WAY) to visit a 7-Eleven disguised as a Kwik-E-Mart in honor of the release of the new Simpsons theatrical release. Admittedly, I haven't watched the Simpsons in years, but for a good stretch in the 90's it was my favorite sit-com on TV (aside from Seinfeld of course).

What do I have to do to get a good taco place downtown for lunch? Those who know me know about my aversion to fast food tacos, particularly Taco Bell (I'll tell you when you're older). I used to go to Baja Fresh. It wasn't great, but I could take it now and then. Burrito Beach doesn't nothing for me. And Chipotle, well, there's just no love in Chipotle tacos.

July 12, 1979. I was only five years old at the time and really have little to no recollection of the event, but over the last 28 years as a White Sox fan, a Steve Dahl fan, and a Rock and Roll fan, I've grown to appreciate it even more as one of those moments in time that is unlike any other.

ichiro star

anyone who saw the all star game tonight will know why i think Ichiro is the most exciting player in the game today. too bad he can't play for the White Sox.

and no, irony is not lost on me.

one warm day about three and a half weeks ago, i came home from getting a haircut to a really hot apartment. this is not the kind of temperature reception when you come home to an air conditioned (or so i thought) condo. i looked at the thermostat and the air conditioner (from here on out to be referred to as the A/C) was on and set to a comfortable 76 degrees. unfortunately, the actual temperature in the condo was 84. i put my had under a vent and felt lukewarm air. not good. not good at all.

fast forward to the present (remember, three and a half weeks), and still no A/C to speak of to keep the place cool.
