What do I have to do to get a good taco place downtown for lunch? Those who know me know about my aversion to fast food tacos, particularly Taco Bell (I'll tell you when you're older). I used to go to Baja Fresh. It wasn't great, but I could take it now and then. Burrito Beach doesn't nothing for me. And Chipotle, well, there's just no love in Chipotle tacos.
I went to Chipotle Friday during the peak of the lunch hour, and boy that long line moves fast. But when you watch the people behind the counter, well, there's just no love in those assembly line tacos. Person A takes your order and flips three soft shell tacos to Person B who asks what kind of meat you want and then spreads a handful of steak across the three shells each shell getting less meat than the previous one, then flips it to Person C who sprinkles some cheese (HOLD THE SOUR CREAM! THANK YOU!) and flips them to Person D who dumps a ton of lettuce on the tacos, wraps them all together in one wrapper, and off you go to pay.
I'm saying we need a good taco place down here. One of those 24 hour places you find yourself showing up at 2am with ringing eardrums and bloodshot eyes looking to consume some tacos to soak up some of the liquid evil running through your system and to sober up for the rest of the trip home.
That's what I'm talking about for lunch downtown. Although, now that I think of it, if it's not 2am and all of the above criteria is not met, are the tacos really that good anyway?
